About reflexology
Reflexology, an ancient art, is today a trusted and established complementary health therapy. It is based on the theory that different points of the feet or hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body and by working these points with her/his hands the reflexologist aims to relax and rebalance the body.
In December 2018 the All Party Parliamentary Group for Integrated Health Care (APPG) published the following statement: “The future of healthcare lies in our health system, recognising that physical, emotional and mental health care intrinsically linked…”
The group goes on to recommend piloting projects to look at non-traditional ways of treating patients. Reflexology fits the bill as it treats the whole person, and some hospital trusts are already offering a Reflexology service to their patients.
What will happen at an appointment?
Treatments are carried out at my home in Ashwell. My peaceful treatment room, which has a wonderful view of Ashwell’s iconic church tower, is situated on the second floor so if you have mobility difficulties, I can come to you instead. I will ensure that you are comfortable in a reclining chair and ask you to remove your shoes and socks. I will then take a short medical history to be able to tailor the treatment to your needs and to ensure there are no contra-indications to your receiving this therapy.
Treatment commences with gentle relaxing moves over the feet. I then work on all reflex points of the feet using my hands, paying particular attention to any corresponding areas that you have highlighted in our health discussion. The treatment is deeply relaxing and usually very pleasant to receive. There may be some tenderness to specific areas but this is usually transitory and mild. Do not worry if you have ticklish feet; the pressure although gentle is sufficiently firm to overcome this. I will finish with a relaxing foot massage.
The session will last approximately one hour, but please allow a little longer for the first appointment in order to take a medical history and plan the treatment together.
Subsequent appointments
It may be that you are happy to receive a standalone treatment and I would be happy to see you again should you wish to do so. However, it is often the case that a course of treatments will be of greater benefit. We can discuss this after your first appointment and agree a plan together.
